Travel should be fun but it isn't always because in the excitement we forget many basic rules we live by in normal life; so it is time to remember some of these. Often these problems can leave a bitter taste in the mouth and leave you with a dislike of the destination, its people and cost a great deal of money. At the extreme end you may have to spend time at the local Police station giving statements and filling out reports.
It doesn't matter if you are visiting a local market or out for an evening meal, traveling safely is about the application of common sense when you are in an unfamiliar location. Nature gave us all a very effective means for survival in unknown circumstances; it's called instinct and you must learn to trust it.
Always be careful about traveling with all your documents and money if you are just going to town to see the sights or have a meal. You know that when you go out for the day or evening there are only certain things you need, so just take those and leave the rest behind in the safe or security deposit box.
One easy thing to do to protect your money is not carry all of it around at once or leave it in just one location where a thief can steal everything you have quite easily. A follow on to this tip is to carry two separate credit cards instead of two from a joint account as this adds an extra security measure should one be stolen, because his way you are not without a credit card whilst you travel.
Some of the easiest possessions to steal are bags and cameras owing to the way people carry them without even recognizing that they are an easy target for thieves so ensure the straps are over the head and across the chest if you want to hold on to them. Always avoid letting something hang from your shoulder next to the road as it is easy to grab something from the back of a motorbike as it passes you.
Criminals love tourists as they are usually considered easy prey and we all underestimate how very proficient they are at relieving people of their personal belongings. This complacency can cause problems because these people make their living doing this sort of thing but just a little extra vigilance can make it much harder for them to take what does not belong to them.
One way to help reduce the chances of things being stolen is by using a back pack with a padlock as makes it more difficult to get into and therefore is generally left alone. To keep your keys safe why not purchase one of those tiny climbers shackles and attach it to a belt or bag because it is a fiddly job trying to remove them.
If you are a man that keeps his wallet in his back pocket, change this to your front pocket; likewise women should close their handbag because all this has a deterrent factor. The majority of problems could be avoided if people didn't let their guard down, which is common on vacation; if you can remember to travel safely, it won't halt your enjoyment but could stop many untoward events from happening.
