At this point he will listen to songs and maybe watch cartoons on TV. He will listen to his parents and grandparents. All the time he will be integrating this learning into his grasp of the language. He will never stop learning new things about the language.

This method is replicated when learning a new language by immersing oneself in the language. Immersion learning typically involves going to a country where the language you desire to learn is spoken.

As scary as it may sound you are a baby again, in a country where all the words make no sense. You will have no option but to listen to this language. If you want to speak you will have to speak in this language. all the strategies that a child uses to learn his native tongue will be in place for you.

All the things that might hold you back, like feeling stupid or saying the wrong thing will not apply. To be understood you have to try and suddenly you understand why you have to learn. Boring vocabulary learning has a point and a practical application.

Learning a second language is never easy and you will feel like an idiot at times. However the desire to communicate should get you through. If you take classes in a Spanish speaking country you will also have the support network to help you through these tricky times.

So the best way, in terms of method and speed, to learn Spanish is to go to a country where it is spoken. Take a course and spend a few months there if possible. This will really bring on your understanding of the language.
