bad habitsThe belief that a hangover remedy will always cure a hangover is a reason many people drink far more that they should. There are probably as many hangover and stop bad habits tips around the world as there are alcoholic drinks available. Large amounts of alcohol affect the body during and after the fact but most of the problem is down to the dehydration which the alcohol causes.

It is known fact that some drinks give you worse hangovers than others due to the actions of impurities contained in the alcohol. How quickly you become drunk is also often down the level of these impurities and just how severe the hangover will be. For instance the white (vodka, gin etc) spirits have less impurities than the colored ones (whisky and cognac) as they have been filtered.

The easiest thing is to not have to search for hangover remedies in the first place by moderating our drinking habits. This happens all too often when people drink a large quantity of alcohol in a very short space of time or because they haven't eaten anything, but they only have themselves to blame. To stop this from happening all that needs to be done is to drink more slowly and this is one of the best hangover remedies because you probably won't need one! Unfortunately, we seem to be destined to search for cures for a hangover and this is always a good conversation matter at any bar in the world. Still finding the cure for a hangover is like the search for the Holy Grail, no-one really knows if it exists but we all keep searching!

It doesn't matter how slowly you drink, if you don't stop, alcohol will gradually dehydrate the body and this dehydration can lead to the hangover headache the next day, therefore, it's important to re-hydrate your body before you go to bed. In order to re-hydrate your body, try drinking a large glass of cold mineral water before bed and also a couple of aspirin or equivalent, to help with the headache you will have; then a glass of orange juice the following morning to help replace the lost vitamin C. Even though this method does work quite well, as with many things in life, the older you get the lower your tolerance to alcohol becomes and you find all those hangover remedies that once worked when you were more youthful, are becoming less effective.

A recent addition to the hangover remedies list is bananas which apparently contain large amounts of fructose and potassium which are tow minerals lost when drinking. Bananas also have two other ingredients that help with hangovers; there is an antacid to help with the nausea and magnesium to help with the bad headache.

The hangover remedy hardest to stomach is ‘Bloody Mary' which contains Vodka and tomato juice plus other ingredients as often, the last thing you feel like drinking when you are hung-over is more alcohol. But learning to say 'thanks but no thanks' could save you years of unnecessary suffering and frustration looking for a cure for a hangover!
