What outside help can do for your family
Having someone come in and working with the special needs child is a big help. If a child has a therapy that needs to be done daily whether it is speech, occupational or physical therapy having someone come in and work with the child can be a big help. You can even have your helpers go to therapy appointments with you and your child to learn how to best help.
Helping your other children with their homework so you can take that time to work with your special needs child is another way that others can help out. This gives an hour or two daily that you can give one-on-one with the special needs child.
A big brother or big sister who has time to help the children in families of special needs can give them the self esteem boost they need. There are many clubs around if you spend a few minutes looking around you should be able to drag something together.
A housekeeper or someone who can take on some of your household chores is a big help. This will give you time to spend with your children and to work with your special needs child. Even having someone bringing in dinner occasionally is a big help and can smooth over some of those bumps in your schedule.
Where Can You Find Helpers?
Hiring someone to come in and help around your house can be quite costly. Using volunteers or finding inexpensive labor is a great way to get around this.
