Simple Vegatarian Meals
If you are thinking of becoming a vegetarian you may be debating if it is for health reasons or because you do not like the though of animals dying to be used as food. So how will it change things in your life and for the planet? However, if enough individuals do stop it becomes statistically more important to the health of animals on this planet.
For instance the number one cause of death in the United States and other countries with meat centered diets is heart disease. It is the cholesterol in meat eggs, milk, cheese and other diary items that contribute to the problem of heart and circulation conditions.
According to Earth Save, the average vegetarian has about a quarter of the chance of having a heart attack as the average non-vegetarian. As for people who are pure vegans, it gets even lower: they have less than 1/10 the chance of having a heart attack as non-vegetarians.
The heart is only one organ that benefits from a vegetarian diet because there are other health advantages. There is less likelihood of cancer owing to the reduced number of preservatives that will be in your diet compared to a person that regularly eats meat.
In addition to this, a vegetarian consumes fewer hormones which are found in the feeds that animals are given. And you won't consume as much lactose, which most people cannot digest properly and which some dietitians have suggested is a cause of digestive problems.
Ok so there are obvious health benefits to becoming a vegetarian but it will also mean that many animals will not be harmed either. According to veganoutreach.org, the average American consumes 2,714 land animals in their lifetime.
In the course of just a few short years you could stop the death of hundreds of animals by becoming a vegetarian. Furthermore, by reducing your intake of dairy products and eggs, many hens and cows will have better living conditions.
The arguments are very convincing and difficult to dismiss; it is definitely better to be a vegetarian. The reduction in animal life lost and the improvement in your health should be convincing enough.
The Cost of Being Vegetarian
Society still isn't ready for vegetarians no matter how health conscious we all are. It is always a contentious subject with your family or friends and whether it is for health, religious or another reason, you are bound to get a number of uninformed comments when you decide to become a vegetarian. It may be that you have decided purely for health reasons to become a vegetarian. However, although a vegetarian diet is very healthy, there are some nutrients that are difficult to replace when there's no meat in your diet.
Vegetarian diets have shown to improve the health of children because they do not contain hormones and preservatives that animals are full of nowadays. Whilst a vegetarian diet is a healthy one, there are other issues to consider when placing a child on a vegetarian diet so some research is necessary.
Consumption of fruit, vegetables and whole grains, which all have health benefits, are a major part of a vegetarian's diet. This vegetarian diet would benefit many obese people in the world where the intake of excess protein and animal fats is causing problems. Other health advantages of a vegetarian diet are that it is normally low in cholesterol and fat.
The higher than usual amounts of fiber found in a vegetarian diet means that it doesn't stay in your system for as long nor does it take as long for the food to be produced initially. In our distant past, people hardly ever ate meat, if at all, so being a vegetarian would be our normal state. When a vegetarian option cannot be found on the menu you should explain to the server that you do not eat meat (and/or dairy and eggs) and ask if the chef can prepare you something.
Medical research has shown the following statistics as they relate to being a vegetarian. Unusually, it is scientific studies on the detrimental effects animal meat has on our systems that have fuelled the increase in vegetarians. Non-vegetarians are also twice as likely to develop some form of heart disease. Many people, at some point in their lives become vegetarian even if only for a short while.
It is in America today where the health benefits of being a vegetarian would be most keenly noticed. Knowing the health benefits of a vegetarian diet does not make it any easier to stop eating meat. However, if you decide to change your life and improve your health situation, it must be for the right reason and if you only consider a vegetarian diet to be a meat replacement, you will be disappointed.
